With big leaks, often our first reaction is to blame the roof. After all, rain comes right down onto the house right? Yes and no.

Solution

This house in Homer Glen had vertical wood sheet siding. The bottom of one section of the siding buckled out. High winds when it rains can blow rain through the cracks and that's what caused the big leak here.
